Information
Dodeskaden started out in march 2004, and so far they have released two demos, Maktlös (2004) and När ingenting längre spelar någon roll (2005). They have also done a Split 7" with Guantanamo Bay.

The name comes from the japanese filmdirector Akira Kurosawa’s first ever colormovie, it’s a tragicomical portray of the slums of Tokyo. It is pronounced "Dough-dess ka-then" and is the sound that appears if you think you drive a railbus that really don’t exist!

I've been meaning to give Dodeskaden a listen for quite some time now. Not sure why it's been taking me so long, but now that I finally have. I'm not all that stoked and could have waited a bit longer. I got a bit worked up over the intro with chopper sounds and bomb alarms, but after that it all just went into a gray mass of plain d-beat punk with a somewhat dark crusty edge. Not anything specifically good or bad, just plain. I always appreciate dual fe-/male vocals and David & Helena utter some amazing parts. But since it got lost in the rest of the other sounds, even that didn't keep me from feeling a bit blase.

6/10

There’s been plenty of talk in the Swedish ‘underground’ crust scene about Dodeskaden, painting the picture of the new messiah of d-beat. But I never really got it, as it sounded more like a band that needed some maturing. And I guess they’ve matured a lot since I heard them the first time, ‘cause this is at times really cool. It is ultra political left-wing views that’s presented through the lyrics, as we’ve encountered so many times before. As well as we’ve heard this duo vocaled anarchopunk before, but it’s still intriguing in all its simplicity and crudeness. Lyrically they deal with stuff like the Israel/Palestine conflict, right-wing politicians as well as drunkenness and a wish to just dance through a revolution.
Bands like Operation, Contravene and @patia No instantly comes to mind, and that means anarchopunk, alright. But there’s something more, something drawing Born/Dead to mind. This for the quite heavy and hardcore-esque crust edge. Musically it’s not very intriguing. Sure, there are some hooks, but for the most part it’s just plain ol’ punk, you know. Not technical, not re-inventing the wheel, just the love for music. What makes Dodeskaden interesting at times is the male voice, which is quite harsh and deep, really differentiating itself from the rough female screams. But this is just one of the places you’ll notice the low quality of production, as the two vocalists aren’t exactly places equally in the mastering, and her voice comes off as almost on top of his, and not besides. Oh well, as I said it’s just plain ol’ punk.

Fint.

The group mixes english and swedish and that I really like….8 songs which is about politics, death anguish and war among other things and that´s not so much apart from other bands in the punkstyle. 8 songs in 12.38….grindpunk or what to call it but the thing which hits me most is that the vocals can be heard really good and that I really appreciate really much. I can think of a record(fullength) with the band with 30-40 songs…come along now, it would be really ncie to hear more with this Nyköpingsband.

They must've been thinking a long, long time to come up with that title, hahaha!
Another new acquaintance, and this band reminds me of good old Swedish bands like DOM DÄR, SVART SNÖ and other Swedish punk/hardcore from the '80s and early '90s. Especially the second track, "The Wall, The War", smells like DOM DÄR.
Very good indeed! This should have been a nice 12" EP instead of a demo! But they could have skipped the outtro, which is just silly.
