D-takts-driven thrashig hardcore från Umeå, med Matte från Personkrets i sättningen. Jag trodde att det här skulle vara någon form av Stenchcore (Hellshock och liknande smuts) med Bolt Thrower-influenser, men detta rör sig om hardcore med thrashinfluenser och tunga partier som i mina öron mest låter som rötna moshpartier (tänk shorts, linnen och krabbröj). Om det inte hade varit för att just de tyngre partierna låter mosh så hade jag kommit bättre överens med den här plattan, bra sväng, svin-go sång och bra energi i riffen, lite för rent och orått ljud för min smak dock. 7 låtar på 16 minuter bjuds vi på och som sagt hade det inte varit för att Misantropic ibland låter som valfritt kasst metalcoreband istället för att låta som Bolt Thrower, så hade jag gillat det här betydligt mer. Det spelar ingen roll hur mycket d-takt som piskas när grädden/gubben redan är sur.

Rating: 6/10. You know the score with the type of music that Sweden's Misantropic play; the crusty punkthrash that's rapidly becoming more and more popular to the point of oversaturation. Plenty of choice is, of course, a good thing, but that also means that there's an awful lot of crap to trudge through in order to find that elusive golden nugget. The problem with abundance in the genre in which Misantropic reside, is that it's a form of music that doesn't lend itself to much deviance from its foundations. In that case, much like the melodic death metal of Göteborg, we find a genre with countless bands that all sound the same. One might say that the inclusion of a female vocalist in itself serves to set Misantropic apart from most of the other bands, and it does to an extent, but unless you're aware of the fact that it's a girl on vocals you might simply assume it's a weak male vocalist at the helm. Musically, it's all above average stuff, but not to the point where "Insomnia" is something you'll be busting to tell people about. Rather, this is a decent listen with some interesting moments. It's like Rotten Sound meets Waklevören in places, only an incredibly weaker version of both that gets tired quite quickly. Next time I give this a spin will probably be in a couple of years when I'm stuck for something to listen to and can't quite remember what this Misantropic album sounded like when I last heard it.

Sätta band i olika fack har aldrig varit min grej och därför älskar jag Misantropics bidrag till scenen då de med denna skiva visar att musik inte behöver genrebestämmas då det blandas diverse musikinfluenser samtidigt som de visar att det kan göras jävligt snyggt och bli hur bra som helst. Blandningen av olika genrer skapas i en perfekt harmoni. Man får känslan att man bjuds på något nytt och experimentlustan känns hög. Här får vi höra sju fantasiska låtar varvid två av dem, Man Into Beast och Holocaust, kan man även hitta på splitten med Deathrace. Dock i nytappning då Gerda nu sjunger på samtliga låtar och hon tillför så otroligt mycket till detta band. Mina favoriter på skivan är dock Raise The Gallows och Lord Of War.

Protestera har släppt en ny platta med titeln" 01.05.1886". Det rör sig fortfarande om melodisk anarkopunk och känns överlag som en rätt naturlig uppföljare till förra fullängdaren "Rock N Riot". Skillnaden är väl att "01.05.1886 " är bra mycket jämnare. Förra plattan var rätt svajig på sina ställen med en del låtar som jag upplevde inte riktigt funkade men nu regnar hitlåtarna tätt. Favoritlåten "Ett folk har rest sig" var tänkt att hamna på förra plattan (minns att jag fick en promo med den inkluderad) men kom alltså med först nu, i nyinspelad version. En annan hit är "Därför regnar bomber i huvudet på små barn" som har grymma Strebers-vibbar (på ett positivt sätt!) och lär skapa allsång varthelst Protestera drar fram. Enda minuset är väl att trummorna känns lite klena - jag har svårt för d takt på riden, det ska manglas på crasharna!

I haven’t heard Misantropic’s previous split 7”, also released on Halvfabrikat Records, and I don’t know if they’ve released anything other than that previous to it, ‘cause I can’t recall to have heard of the band before their name popped up in the label roster for upcoming releases. So I had absolutely no idea what to expect, but it didn’t take long before I realized this was some heavy-as-hell metallic crustcore.
Man into beast reminds me of End of All as soon as it sets in, and when Born to die takes over an ultra thrashy riff begets the track. The entire song has a very old school thrash metal influenced sound, in particular in the riff department, but also somewhat in the drumming. After that it’s on to Raise the gallows, and a pummelling bass sound and slick guitar leads reminiscent of Warcollapse takes the forefront. The variation within these seven tracks is rather big, and at times they remind me of After the Bombs while other times it reminds me of Aversion, a Swedish band that released an EP some years ago. Since I haven’t heard any earlier material I have no clue whether or not they’ve developed in any sense, but from what I understand the vocalist Gerda is new. Her voice has a very hardcore sounding approach, with a sort of hectic way of shouting. It gives the music another spin, and it fits in very well no matter what style of hardcorepunk they might go for.
It’s too bad the lyrics weren’t included in the booklet, since I think they really have something to say. And despite the fact that the vocals are fairly easily deciphered for a message, you can’t hear everything. But musically they’ve got some interesting ideas going on, and show a nack for several different styles, all based in some form of crustcore. It’ll be interesting to see how things develop.

Ibland blir man varse hur nära råpunk och den amerikanska hardcore, som Umeå satte på kartan i mitten av 90-talet, ligger varandra. Det är kanske inte en slump att Misantropic kommer från just Umeå för på ”Insomnia” tycker i alla fall jag att likheterna kan vara ganska slående. Ibland känns det bara som om det bara hänger på i vilken genre bandet själva tycker att de spelar i och vissa yttre attribut.
Två av låtarna på skivan har bandet gett ut på splitten med Deathrace som kom förra året, men nu är det andra bullar när de efter lite ändringar har en kvinnlig sångare. ”Man into beast” och ”Holocaust” blir minst lika bra den här gången.
Överlag är de sju låtarna jävligt bra balanserade och jag blir inte störd av några längre saggiga partier så det blir ganska rak och fin hardcore i slutändan utan för mycket krussiduller och annat tjafs.

This ain't no "merry cuckoos" (if you can figure out what I mean). Crust punk with a doze of metal, a little like good old ANTI CIMEX but with less DISCHARGE in it and female vocals. Damned good indeed! I really like it! So please don't ever make the mistake and do a full-lenght album, 'cus this is the perfect format - 7 songs in approximately 2-3 minutes each and no bullshit. Now I want to see this live too!

Norrländska Misanthropic tar klivet in i Slavestate med EP:n ”Insomnia” och en relativt unik blandning av Bolt Thrower-metal och rå, anglofierad crust. Sju spår bjuder kvintetten på, och redan från de första sekundernas trumpiskande står det klart att det här är fan i mig på allvar! Arga tjejer kan crustscenen aldrig få nog av, och Gerda (som på bandfotot dessutom ser fullkomligt livsfarlig ut) frontar Misanthropic på ett sätt som för tankarna till systrar som Mary Bielich (Behind Enemy Lines) och Grace Perry (Landmine Marathon). Lägg därtill ett riktigt kantigt, kallt gitarrsound och låtar som ”Raise the gallows” och ”Born to die” och vinnaren av ”månadens punkrelease” är korad. Officiellt beskrivs Misanthropic som en blandning av Sacrilege och Consume, och efter en sådan här mangelpenetration är det helt klart två band jag blir betydligt mer nyfiken på. Det enda jag inte riktigt trivs med är att sången istället för modersmålet norrländska framförs på engelska, vilket har en stor nackdel i genren – oavsett hur skitförbannad Gerda faktiskt låter känns det helt enkelt inte lika farligt.

Open, body, close of revi I stumbled upon this heap of socially indignant Swedes the other day… well actually they tripped me, the douchebags!!!! Anyway, I can’t get enough of the giant turd flingfest that is better known as D-beat, Crust, Anarcho, Grind these day. Is it because it’s some of the only music that I hear recently that ACTUALLY waves the finger high and boldly at the wreckage and bullshit game of life that people consider society? Possibly, it definitely doesn’t hold back behind paint and costumes or images of evil, it stands stark naked in the face of politeness and social constrictions. NO ONE likes to tell someone to FUCK OFF more than me, many may tie, but none can exceed my frustrations and disgust most days with the stupid and inherently worthless and greedy. Where many care more about image, these louts care more about the message and making some of the best metallic punk racket that I’ve heard period.
So, what DO you get on this upcoming release?

Misantropic var ju ett av alla banden som spelade på Punk Illegal, och jag tyckte att dom var helt okej. Lite tidigare på kvällen så kom Danne Halvfabrikat och morsade i baren med helt färska ”Insomnia” i högsta hugg. Tidigare har dom släppt en split 7’’ med Deathrace som jag beskrev som ”elak kängpunk i botten som hämtar influenser från både döds och thrash metal”. Och det är fortfarande så att dom står med ett ben i crusten och ett i metallen. Men denna gången känns det mera som att det smält samman mycket bättre. Det flyter ihop på ett mycket bättre sätt om ni fattar. Det är inte så mycket ”nu har vi punkat på ett tag så nu kör vi ett metallparti”, utan som jag skrev så känns det mer naturligt nu och sammanhängande. Båda låtarna från split 7’’ är ju med här också, men även dom låter mycket bättre och fetare. Tror även att mycket beror på sångerskan Gerda som gör ett jävla bra jobb. Ingen skugga över Johannes som sjöng förut, men jag måste säga att jag gillar detta bättre. Fläskigt jävla ljud också som passar deras metalcrust som handen i handsken. Dom har även lyckats med att få plattan precis lagom lång, 7 låtar på 16 ½ minut så man tappar aldrig intresset. I mailet som bandet skickade runt inför plattan stod det att ”någon sammanfattade det nya materialet som Sacrilege i knivslagsmål med Consume och det låter ju ganska jävla rimligt…” Och ja, det låter ganska rimligt. En jäkligt bra platta som ni skaffar från Halvfabrikat på stört.
